Victoria’s Secret, the world’s leading retailer of fashion-inspired clothing, lingerie, bras, and sexy intimates, caught many by surprise when the brand announced Darren Barnet as its new brand ambassador.

The announcement made the ‘Never Have I Ever’ star the first male brand ambassador of the company. All past ambassadors were females, which reinforced the suspicion that Darren’s selection was not by accident.

Victoria’s Secret is leaving no stone unturned as it prepares to launch its Pink line of “gender-free” clothing. In recent years, the company has shown readiness to expand on its gender-free offerings, and thus, having Darren Barnet as its brand ambassador would help spread the message.

Amy Hauk, the chief executive of both the Victoria’s Secret and Pink brands, announced that the company was excited about the partnership and emphasized Darren’s standing as a “positive role model” for adolescents.

Victoria’s Secret sees Darren as a perfect role model for its campaign towards raising awareness of critical issues like mental health. The actor has always been vocal about addressing the issue of mental health and empowering young people, which is exactly what Victoria’s Secret plans to achieve.

Excited about his new partnership, Darren took to Instagram to share the news. Although he was humbled by the opportunity to share some of the new styles, he said that the most important part of his new role is the advocacy for causes relating to mental health. In Darren’s own words: “My hope is that we can reach those young adults who need to be heard and supported most.”
